Impatience is Resistance

by Nicci on February 27, 2010

If you’ve read much about the Law of Attraction, you have probably heard the phrase, ‘What you resist, persists’.   The theory behind this is that if we are trying to push something away out of our reality we end up focusing all our energy on it.  This intense focus on what we ‘don’t want’ has the effect of giving us a bucket-load more of what we ‘don’t want’ and nothing of what we ‘do want’. We are warned that if we focus on feelings of lack, we end up generating more ‘lack’ in our lives.

So we are told to focus on what we do want, with only positive thoughts to generate the things we want in our life.  However, it gets complicated.  Often I hear people saying that they definitely aren’t focusing on lack and that they really, truly want the result they are aiming for.  They are desperate to bring this new thing into their reality and are focusing on it all the time.

Right now I can hear that level of impatience in my own thoughts.   I’ve been doing this Intention Manifestation stuff for days now, so where is my money?  Thoughts like: ‘I really want this.  When is it going to happen?   Why isn’t it happening now?  Shouldn’t I have had some alpha reflections by now?  When am I going to know what linear action to take?  What do I need to do to make this happen quicker?’

Can you hear the impatience in my thoughts?  Can you hear the frustration, the undertone of ‘I want it now, I don’t want to wait!’?  The thoughts in my head sound desperate, rather than relaxing, calm and trusting.  Yes it is focusing on ‘what I want’ but the energy of impatience and frustration are having a negative effect.

It’s important to realise that impatience is another form of resistance.   Impatience for results means that you are resisting the perfection of the present moment.  It puts us in a future focused state so we don’t get to appreciate what we have right now.  Particularly, this impatience means that you are resisting the process of becoming a match for your intention.

If I get to skip the process and just click my fingers and manifest the results I want then I miss out on all the pleasure of the learning and growing experience.   It would be like reading only the first page and the last page of a novel to find out what happens instead of enjoying each delicious plot twist, all the misunderstandings, set-backs and flashes of inspiration.

Impatience means you want to skip the journey, the learning, the discovery of who you are.   It means that you don’t trust the intention to unfold before you, that you are not grateful for what you have right now, that you are being too controlling and need to lighten up.

So I’m delighted that I have spotted this impatience because that means I can do something about it!  When I feel that impatience running in me, I have started taking a deep breath and helping myself get into the feeling of having what I want already.   Allowing myself to feel relaxed and blissful that my intention is manifesting and unfolding itself.  I am doing this several times a day, but particularly when I notice impatient or frustrated feelings.

So check on how you feel when you focus on what you want.   Do you feel relaxed, calm and joyful?   Or do you feel tense, anxious and impatient.   If it is the latter, take some deep breaths and let those tense feelings drift away because otherwise they’ll be hampering your progress.   Let the feelings of abundance wash over you.  Allow yourself to feel cheerful about your intended result.
Ahhhh bliss!
